We thought that our old brand was good, but we wanted it to be great! So we created a new brand that more strongly sets us apart from other organizations and better showcases our vision for improving literacy in all its forms. It highlights our philosophy of being a community based, community-oriented literacy organization that focuses on the amazing potential of our students and the amazing support of our partners.
Our new brand includes a new logo that highlights two powerful ideas that we’re embracing: Literacy means more than just being able to read. And it takes all of us- donors & partners, students, staff, and volunteers – to realize growth in skills, programs, and community impact.
Additionally, our new logo represents opportunity. Did you notice how it resembles both books and doors? It showcases an open door to opportunity amidst open books; a gateway to learning, to advanced skills, to information.
Each of the four main rectangles represent more than just open books. They represent different facets of literacy: reading, writing, math, and digital skills. They also represent the diverse community that is crucial to the success of our organization: partners/donors, students, teachers, and volunteers.
Together they create depth, intersect, and have transparency. Each relies on the other for structure and support. The smaller rectangle represents an open door to opportunity. For students, that door provides passage to successes bred by increased literacy skills. For others, it is an open invitation to connect with us and get involved in creating and leaving a legacy of literacy in our community!
This brand change was an important step to position Literacy KC for the future, but it doesn’t change our vision of improving lives through literacy and it doesn’t change supporters’ vital role. We will always be the Literacy KC you know and trust and we will continue to work to be better!
