The board of directors of Literacy Kansas City is pleased to announce that Carrie Coogan has joined the staff as Executive Director.
Carrie is perhaps best known in the community from her broadcast work, including a13-year tenure as an on-air reporter for Fox4 News, WDAF-TV, and a six-year run as co- host of the Johnny Dare Morning Show on KQRC. A desire to make a lasting difference in the world inspired Carrie to leave broadcast and enter the non-profit world. She comes to Literacy Kansas City from Kansas City Hospice House where she served as a Volunteer Coordinator.
“One of the greatest challenges our organization faces is getting the word out about our mission and programs,” said Marilou Joyner, board president. “Carrie’s knowledge and expertise will help us overcome that obstacle. That expanded visibility will help us recruit more tutors, expand our visibility with donors, and most importantly, reach more students.”
Literacy Kansas City has been working to advance literacy within the Kansas City region through direct services, advocacy and collaboration for more than 25 years.
